Just before you reach East Yarde from Watergate you go over the highest point on the trail near Peters Marland. It's marked by a mosaic sculpture and one of those metal signpost things. It marks the end of the seemingly endless climb that started at the bottom of the iron bridge at Torrington. The roll down into East Yarde comes as a welcome change.
Once again there is a road crossing here so keep an eye on any children in the group.
The small gravel car park can accommodate six or seven cars and there is a small picnic area tucked in the corner. You'll also find the Yarde Cafe and Bunkhouse here which which specialises in home cooked locally sourced produce.
In the other direction the track now slopes gently off towards Petrockstow. The gravel surface starts off cutting through woodland before the scenery changes as you skirt some quarry workings. There are a few road crossings (guarded by gates of course) between here and Petrockstow so don't let the little ones get too far ahead.
The art works change nature along this stretch of track too. Gone are the carved wooden benches, to be replaced by mosaic seats on a wildlife theme.
