Just in case you've forgotten where we are already.

If you're travelling from the Bideford direction then Watergate marks the point where the sealed surface of the track ends and turns into dressed ballast.  It makes for a slightly rougher ride and if it's been raining then your wheels are going to start slinging some mud around.  If you haven't got mud-guards (let's face it, they're for girls aren't they?!) you're going to look like you've got a bad case of brown measles!  You might also want to think twice about venturing past Watergate if you're on a pure road bike.

Don't let me put you off though, there's plenty of track to see yet and going up the climb means that you have fun coming back down! And, further on, there is a return to a sealed surface.  If you stop now you're going to miss some of the best bits.  It's not like you're going really off-road or anything, but you might want to pack a puncture repair kit just in case.

There's a gravel car park that'll hold 8-10 cars or so, and tucked in the corner you'll find a couple of picnic tables.  Be careful if there are children in your party because there is a road crossing here by the way.

Despite the name, I've not found any trace of Richard Nixon.

The track leads out of Watergate and winds up towards East Yarde    I'm going to have to clean this now!
