Barnstaple Downstream Bridge

After a long and contentious planning process, work on the downstream bridge across the Taw in Barnstaple is now complete.  It is designed to alleviate the traffic problems that are often a problem in the town, centred as it is around its river crossing at the old Longbridge.  Whether it will have the desired effect is yet to be seen but at the time of writing the date for the opening of the bridge draws rapidly near.  Comprehensive re-routing of the cycle paths around the site of the bridge and provision of a new pavement cycle track across the river promise to enhance your Barnstaple cycling experience.  In the meantime here are some shots of the bridge in the last stages of construction and checking
